Pizzeria a favourite of Winnipeg diners

Awards for Santa Lucia keep rolling in

When you've been in business for 37 years – and counting – you must be doing something right.

Very right.

In operation since 1971 when they opened a small, take-out pizzeria in Thompson, Santa Lucia Pizza, owned by the Simeonidis family, continues to do the same things now that they did to establish themselves as a family favourite over three decades ago.

"Even though times change, the fundamentals of being a successful restaurant don't," Santa Lucia's Greg Simeonidis says.

"Right from the start, we were totally dedicated to providing our customers with great tasting food and great value. That made our little pizzeria a success, and continues to do so."

One of the primary ingredients in Santa Lucia's ability to outlast a host of competitors has been a carefully-selected, and well-executed, menu.

"We've always strived to ensure that all menu items added over the years have been of the exact high quality as all our other famous selections," he says.

"And we've done that by doing things like always – making fresh dough, breads and sauces and salad dressings, not to mention traditional Greek foods, all from scratch."

"Our customers notice that attention to detail. As a result, we're known for more than just our pizzas."

Awards handed out to Santa Lucia Pizza over the years serve as a testimony to their uncompromising commitment to quality: Best Pizza in Winnipeg (Uptown Magazine), Best Garlic Bread in Winnipeg (Winnipeg Free Press) and Best Food Booth (Tast of Manitoba), among others.

Now, Santa Lucia has also been handed the Consumers' Choice Award for Best Family Restaurant.

The award is something the entire family is extremely proud of, Mr, Simeonidis says.

"We're never going to change what we do – delivering quality and value every time you visit one of our restaurants," he says. "No matter which location you choose, deciding between all the great dishes – pizza, pasta, salads, signature chicken, ribs and unforgettable Greek food – will be a challenge.
